K9 Corps Waitlist: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I get on the waitlist?
You can sign up for the waitlist anytime on the Join page. After clicking the "Waitlist Registration" button, you will be directed to the application. There is a one-time, non-refundable $75 to be placed on the waitlist. This fee does not apply towards your membership once you are invited to join.

Q: How much does it cost to be a member of the K9 Corps?
The base membership fee (if you choose to volunteer 8 hours as a part of your membership) is $235, which is a tax-deductible donation. In addition, there is a $50 fee (not tax deductible) for each dog that you own, and each member must pay for at least one dog. The maximum number of dogs that you may have on your account is three.

Q: I signed up for the waitlist but never received confirmation. How do I know it worked?
For all waitlist inquires, contact grrr@congressionalcemetery.org. A cemetery representative will be able to confirm your application as well as your position on the list.

Q: How long will I be on the waitlist?
The K9 Corps caps the number of dogs in the program at 770. Because the K9 Corps only admits members once a year during the renewal period of January – February, those on the waitlist should expect to be on the waitlist for over a year.

Q: I tried to access my account on Cemetery Dogs and it says it doesn’t recognize me. How do I get in to my account?
We do not allow individuals on the waitlist to access the membership database, which is why the page does not recognize your account. If you need to change any information in your account, please email grrr@congressionalcemetery.org with updated information.

Q: How will I know when I have been admitted to the program?
After giving current members the chance to renew every year between January 1st and 31st, the waitlist officially opens on the first of February. If you are selected to be a member in the K9 Corps, you will receive an email message from Cemetery Dogs.

Q: Do I need to reapply every year if I am not selected?
No. You maintain your spot on the waitlist from year to year and do not need to re-submit an application.

Q: What if I decide not to join the year I am invited to the K9 Corps? Can I stay on the waitlist?
Yes, but you will lose previous spot on the waitlist and will be placed at the bottom of the list. If you wish to stay on the waitlist, you must notify grrr@congressionalcemetery.org when you receive your invitation. The administrator will then delete your account, which will allow you to re-apply at the bottom of the list.

Q: I have friends who are members of the K9 Corps, and they are moving away from DC. Can I take over their membership?
K9 Corps memberships are non-transferrable.

Q: Is there any way for me to visit the cemetery with my dog while I’m on the waitlist?
Yes. Day passes are available in the main office at 1801 E Street SE, Monday-Friday, 9-5. These day passes may only be used on the purchase date. Gate checkers on the weekends may also have day passes available for sale. Day passes are $10 and require you to sign a waiver that you will carry with you on your walk.
